For me, getting outside of my normal routine and disconnecting is the key to finding inspiration. I must be quiet and at peace in order to receive it. I find that when my mind is constantly occupied with thoughts of family or work there is no room for creative inspiration.

Lately my inspiration has come from nature. I have discovered a love of hiking and kayaking which have both brought me to the most beautiful places. Never before have I been so aware of God’s creativity and imagination. This has inspired me to rethink, regroup and recharge. I am gravitating toward simplicity and gratitude for what has been given me and how to be more appreciative of what is right in front of me.

I challenge you to find a new place, experience the awe of nature and revel in it’s beauty. But most of all, take a picture – it will last longer!

I didn’t realize it until I left a wonderful artists studio yesterday filled with beaded work, handmade books, quilts, dolls, jewelry, purses, journals and quilted postcards..I know there was so much more.

I realized I have become a little afraid in my work. I have gotten so wrapped up in my “real” job, family and chores that I have forgotten to play.

So I’ve begun this little exercise that is supposed to take only an hour of my day to help me be more creative and stop overthinking everything.

I’m calling it postcard journaling.

I’ve never made postcards before but they look like fun. Quick little projects that don’t have to be perfect and I can get my “completed project” fix. Hopefully it will get me out of my box.

This is the first installment called “Just Keep Swimming”…(from the movie finding Nemo)

This started as a scanned piece of art from a child’s fingerpainting, printed on fabric and machine quilted. The fish is from an obnoxious piece of fabric with fish and mermaids on it…He’s better out of his box as well! I have to get some tyvec for the back and finish the edges… tomorrow is my birthday – maybe I’ll make a cake!

The Standard T-Shirt Quilt is made by cutting each shirt to the same size and adding fabric sashing between. You may choose the color of the fabric, perhaps a color that matches your school colors or the room where the quilt will be displayed. Depending on the size of the shirt, I am able to get the majority of the logo within each block. You may choose many quilt sizes based on the number of shirts you wish to use. Both the fronts and the backs of the shirts can be used if you choose.
